what comes to your mind when you hear the word “yoga”…stretches, workout, exercise, twist, moves etc crack into your head. Wherever you go people are talking about the several benefits of yoga and need in everyday life. Doing yoga gives peace to the mind and keeps the body healthy. It strengthens physical and mental health. There comes discipline in life by practicing yoga. The tradition of Yoga is said to have started with the very first light of evolution. The word yoga comes from the Sanskrit word ‘yuj’ which means to unite. The union is referred to as mind and body harmonization. Yoga does not follow any custom, caste or religion; it is always for   the inner wellbeing. Lord Shiva is considered to be the first yog or first gurui; it is believed that He dispersed his awareness and understanding to seven learned men known as the Saptarishis. Then they spread this knowledge in different directions. The art of yoga has been originated thousands of years ago, long ago when the first religions or customs were made.

Different Types of Yoga

Hatha Yoga

Hatha yoga is one of the very popular type of yoga. Most of the Yoga terms are based on Sanskrit language. The word hatha means “forceful” or “wilful”, which translates to “a forceful yoga”. There are several Physical benefits of hatha yoga. It helps in Building up immunity, Improves flexibility, Tones the body. A regular practice of hatha yoga is useful in controlling hypertension, which is one of the foremost causes of heart attack.

Ashtanga Yoga

The word Ashtanga is derived from Sanskrit language, “Ashta + anga” is ashtanga. “Ashta” means Eight and “Anga” is limbs so it means Eight Limb path. Ashtanga yoga is a style of yoga that follows the set of sequence. There are many benefits of performing ashtanga yoga. It helps in increasing flexibility, improves coordination, maintaining cardiovascular fitness, reduces lower back pain and risks of injuries, lowers blood pressure etc.

Bikram yoga

Bikram yoga is a form of yoga which has been  popularized by Bikram Choudhury in the 1970s in California. This form of yoga  involves repeating the same 26 poses in set cycles over a 90-minute class.. It helps in Building strength, flexibility, balance; it improves posture; it Prevents chronic illnesses and injuries. It also helps in maintaining weight, Promotes better sleep. It also teaches you to breathe fully and correctly

Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini yoga is also known as the “yoga of awareness,” kundalini yoga includes cyclic poses. It basically involves chanting, singing, breathing exercises. Kundalini yoga is suitable for the people dealing with the mental state of stress, anxiety, depression. Its purpose is to stimulate your Kundalini energy, or shakti. It provides number of health benefits such as improved mood, greater focus, lower blood pressure, balanced metabolism, and improved strength.

Restorative yoga

Restorative yoga is a style of yoga that encourages physical, mental, and emotional relaxation. It is suitable for all levels of practitioners. Restorative yoga is practiced at a slow pace, focusing on long holds, stillness, and deep breathing. The benefits of restorative yoga are much similar to the benefits of other forms of yoga. Key benefits includes relaxation of your mind and body, Soothes the nervous system, improves your mood, help reduce pain associated with headache or back pain, boost the quality of your sleep. Restorative yoga is considered Safe to perform during pregnancy as well.

Yin yoga

Yin yoga is a style of yoga which is somewhat similar to Restorative yoga. It is practiced at slow pace in order to release stress and tension both physically and mentally. Yin yoga works on the yin tissues – also known as the connective tissues. Connective tissue responds best to a slow, steady load, that is why we hold the poses for longer. It helps in balancing the mind and body, reduces stress and anxiety, increases circulation, improves flexibility, it also helps in Balancing the internal organs and improves the flow of soul.
